Chandler married in a Quaker ceremony in Washington County, Pennsylvania in late 1797. His wedding certificate contains the signatures of guests, some of whom can be identified as Chandler family members. Other names are found in the 1789 Chandler ledger and in later Ross County, Ohio documents.
There is no record of when William moved to Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. His first child, Rebecca, was born at High Banks, Ross County, Ohio in November of 1798. Ross County Wills, page 470, #340 notes that the Chandlers are Quakers. Rebecca Chandler, identified as the granddaughter of John Winder, is noted as having been the first Quaker girl born in Ross County, with her birth date cited as 1796 or 1797.
A Standard History Of Ross County, Ohio Vol. 1: An Authentic Narrative Of The Past (1917) by Lyle S Evans notes on pages 127 -128 that William Chandler was one of several individuals named as a contractor in May 1800 to build the Ross County Courthouse.
The births of William Chandler's children, the death of his first wife, and his subsequent second marriage are all recorded as having occurred in Ross County. Yet two 1803 documents fail to specifically identify his place of residence.
