1816 Madison Land Grant #4667

Partially printed MS on vellum, 14 x 8 3/4 inches, white paper seal affixed bottom left. Signed by the President James Madison, by Josiah Meigs, Commissioner of the General Land Office. Entered 20th June 1816. Recorded in Vol. 15, page 409. Printed with handwritten additions (indicated by italics below). Handwritten number 4667 in top left corner.

JAMES MADISON, President of the United States of America,

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETINGS:

Know ye, That James Winder, Assignee of Solomon Shepard having deposited in the General Land Office, a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Cincinnati whereby it appears that full payment has been made for the southeast quarter of section Thirty Three of township Thirteen in range Thirteen lying east of the second principal meridian line of the Lands directed to be sold at Cincinnati by the Act of Congress, entitled “An Act providing for the Sale of the Lands of the United States in the Territory north west of the Ohio, and above the “mouth of Kentucky river,” and of the Acts amendatory of the same, There is granted, by the United States unto the said James Winder the quarter lot or section of Land above described: To have and to hold the said quarter lot or section of Land with the appurtenances, unto the said James Winder his heirs and assigns forever.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have caused these Letters to be made PATENT, and the Seal of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE to be hereunto affixed.

GIVEN under my hand at the City of Washington, the 28th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen [fifteen crossed out, sixteen handwritten above it], and of the Independence of the United States of America the fortieth.
